Blogging for class

class

Let’s get blogging . . .

Part of your class requirement will be writing on the class blog.  You will be expected to both make original posts and respond to other students’ posts.  Occasionally, you will have specific assignments that request that you blog, but your grade also depends on you blogging periodically throughout the semester.

So, what the heck are you supposed to post on the blog? And how do you do it?

First, you’ll need to be logged into the blog and that requires you are a “registered user”. So go to our class blog (english116vasudeva@blogspot.com) and register.  I also encourage you to get notified when anything is posted.

What’s the purpose of our blog?  To engage in conversation about writing, this class and the topics that we address in class. All of the topics of discussion are part of a larger conversation, and it’s important that you are participating in that conversation as well.

What can I post?  You can post a question about an essay or about a discussion in class. You can post a comment or thought you had in response to an essay or in class discussion. You can post a response to someone else’s question or response. Think of the blog like a conversation.

What can’t I post? Everything posted on the blog has to go through me.  I encourage students to express their ideas and opinions freely within the boundaries of common decency and respect for all class members. You are welcome to disagree with a classmate or with me, but do so with respect.

You are expected to complete any blogging assignments (those will be specifically mentioned) and an additional 10 blog posts over the course of the semester. To count for credit, the posts must not be questions about class operations (you are welcome to post those, but they don’t fulfill the blogging requirement for grading) and they cannot be minimal response (yes, no, I think so, I agree, I disagree, could be, You are so right. . . none of those will count without additional back up and commentary).
